Tips & Troubleshooting

Solve problems quickly and improve the quality of your scans.

Troubleshooting

The scan won't start or the camera won't open

Check the camera permission (Settings → ScanCraft → Camera). Close and reopen the app. If the problem persists, restart your device.

Large gaps appear in the model

Move more slowly, scan from all angles and increase the light. If there are reflective surfaces, apply a temporary matte coating.

The scan progresses too slowly

Free up storage on your device, close background apps and turn off low power mode. Scan very large spaces in sections.

Measurements look unrealistic

Scan scale is calculated from the starting point. Calibrate the scale with a reference object of known length.

The exported model won't open in another program

Check the file size; very large models may not open in some applications. Try again with reduced density or use a different format (e.g. OBJ instead of GLB).

Cloud backup is not syncing

Check your internet connection and that you are signed in to the correct account. You can start the backup queue manually from Settings → Cloud.

Pro tips

  • Use a scale reference: Include an object of known size (A4 paper, ruler) in the scan; use it for scale correction.
  • Use a turntable for small objects: Place objects between 10-30 cm on a rotating turntable and fix the phone; this yields the cleanest point cloud.
  • Scan in sections: Scan very large spaces room by room, align the parts and merge them.
  • Avoid daylight: Changing light from windows causes color inconsistency in photogrammetry.
  • Back up right after scanning: To avoid losing raw data, back up to the cloud as soon as a scan finishes.
  • Keep your library tidy: Create projects and tags to manage hundreds of scans with ease.
