How to Scan
Ways to get the best results when scanning objects and spaces.
The secret to a quality 3D scan is good preparation and patient movement. This section explains step by step how to achieve the best results.
Preparation Before Scanning
- Prepare the area: Leave enough room to walk at least one step around the object.
- Adjust the light: Stable and soft light is ideal. Avoid sudden shadow changes and direct sunlight.
- Stabilize the subject: A rotating turntable or a fixed surface noticeably improves scan quality.
- Watch out for reflective surfaces: Mirrors, glass and shiny metal are hard to scan. You can use a matte spray or a temporary coating.
Object Scanning
- Select object mode and start scanning.
- Move in a slow circle around the object.
- Keep the phone 1-2 meters away and slightly tilted.
- Continue until the coverage indicator on screen reaches 90%.
- For top and bottom surfaces, gently tilt the phone to change the angle.
- Stop the scan and wait for processing to complete.
Space Scanning
- Select space mode.
- Scan the room starting from the edges; walk along the walls.
- Do not forget to go behind furniture; follow the coverage indicator.
- In high-ceilinged areas, slowly turn the phone upwards.
- Automatic floor correction is applied after processing.
Settings That Improve Scan Quality
- High quality mode: Produces a denser point cloud and takes longer.
- Frame rate: The automatic setting is usually best indoors.
- Smoothing: Apply light smoothing during processing on noisy surfaces.
- Color capture: Keep HDR color capture on to preserve textures.
Common Mistakes
- Moving too fast → blurry surfaces and gaps
- Scanning from the same angle for too long → missing surfaces
- Insufficient light → weak texture and noisy depth
- Constantly changing the distance to the object → scale errors
Scanning FAQ
How long does a scan take?
Small objects can take 1-3 minutes with LiDAR and 5-10 minutes with photogrammetry. Space scans vary between 10-30 minutes depending on size.
What happens if the phone overheats?
Heating is normal during long scans. The app automatically lowers the frame rate to protect the device. We recommend taking breaks during long space scans.
Can I scan moving objects?
Accuracy drops with moving subjects. Stabilize the object if possible or complete the scan quickly.
How do I scan transparent or shiny surfaces?
Temporarily matte the surface: a matte spray, chalk powder or paper tape will do. Digital correction can be applied after scanning.
